Blue Waxbill - Uraeginthus angolensisThe waxbill family are a beautifully marked and varied group of finches from central and southern Africa. The blue waxbill is a very common resident to Botswana. Pairs and small parties are frequently with other small seedeaters and are found in thornveld, thronbushes and thickets along watercourses like the Chobe river. This bird is easily recognizable by its brown back and crown and its very distinctive blue rump, face, breast and tail. The female is paler and the blue on the flanks is omitted.
