Xigera Camp
One of the unique features of Xigera Camp
is a footbridge close to the camp that lions
and leopards use as a crossing
point as they travel between the islands in the Moremi
Game Reserve and the Okavango
Delta.
Xigera Camp (pronounced Kee-je-ra) is located
on Paradise Island, in Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve, adjoining
the Okavango Delta. Xigera Camp can accommodate 16 guests in comfortable
tents with en suite bathrooms. Xigera Camp’s tents are built on
elevated decks and face an Okavango Delta river that flows by the Xigera
Camp. This Okavango Delta river with its clean waters is Xigera Camp’s
natural “swimming pool”. Meals and drinks at Xigera Camp are
served in a thatched building with good views of the footbridge that lions
and leopards use to go across
neighbouring islands of the Okavango Delta. Many Xigera Camp guests have
seen these predators make the crossing from the dining area.
Summer game drives at Xigera Camp offer
great viewing opportunities of large game animals and birdlife. Fishing
owls and wattled cranes, egrets and eagles abound in this region of the
Okavango Delta surrounding Xigera Camp. Going for quiet mokoro
(dugout canoes) trips into the Okavango Delta are rewarding excursions,
with opportunities of sighting the rare Sitatunga
antelopes. Xigera Camp also offers walking safaris into the Okavango
Delta with experienced safari guides.
